Summer Reading June 1 - September 30, 2020

Summer Reading for all ages begins Monday, June 1st. We have programs for Children, Teens and Adults!

Kids (Ages 0-Grade 6)

  • Track the amount of minutes or number of books read.
  • Receive a free book just for registering! (while supplies last)
  • Earn a raffle ticket for every 10 books or 200 minutes read.

Teens (Grades 6-12)

  • Track the amount of minutes read on paper or online.
  • Every 200 minutes you read will earn you a raffle ticket.
  • Earn extra raffle tickets by writing book reviews. Every 2 reviews equal 1 raffle ticket.
  • Get a book prize at 200 minutes!

Adults (18 years +)

  • Track the number of books you read on paper or online.
  • Every 5 books read earns you a raffle ticket ino a gift card drawing.
  • Read 10 books and pick out a free new book (while supples last).
  • Earn extra raffle tickets by writing book reviews. Every 2 reviews equal 1 raffle ticket.

How to register:

Register online at westallislibrary.beanstack.org. If you have alread participated in previous year's summer or winter reading, you should already have a Beanstack account. To register with library staff or if you have any questions, please call 414-302-8500.

     
 
West Allis Public Library reopening plan:         

 

 

  The health and safety of our staff and patrons is our priority. We have created a plan to safely reopen the building to the public. Please note what services will be available during this initial opening:

  • Limited onsite services will be available, including browsing & checkout, copier & FAX service, and reference services
  • Use of public computers will not be available
  • Study rooms will not be accessible until further notice
  • Furniture has been removed to encourage social distancing and discourage lingering and large groups of people
  • Library users are encouraged to limit their visits to 30 minutes or less
  • There will be no on-site programs. Please visit our YouTube page for digital programming options
  • Toys and coloring supplies have been removed from the Children's Department
  • Curbside service will continute to be available

       For Adults --------------

Genre Bingo 

Each month this summer we will have a different genre bingo card! Pick-up a printed bingo card at the library (via curbside while the builiding is closed) or print from our Facebook page. Show us your completed bingo card and be entered into a raffle to win a small prize.
This month's theme: Graphic Novels and Comics

 

Recipe Club - June is pie month!

Each month this summer staff will share a recipe and a step-by-step process making the recipe on our social media. We encourage you to share you own success making the same recipe or share one of your favorites! This month we will be baking a pie!

 

Leisure Learner Topics to Go!

We look forward to when we can resume our regular, onsite Leisure Learners programs but in the meantime we have created kits of various themes to checkout. Themes range from Milwaukee History, to Gardening and from Budgeting to Nature. Call us at 414-302-8500 to request from one of our many topics!

 

Virtual Books & Coffee Discussion - stay tuned for details!

A virtual version of our monthly Books & Coffee Discussion! Join us online to chat about the book of the month! We'll vote on which bok to read, then discuss the book. Be sure to follow us on Facebook to get up-to-date information and to participate.

Coloring Club - June 18th

For those of you who may be missing coloring club, we invite you to participate from home! Stop by the library to pick-up a coloring packet (via curbside while library is closed). Be sure to share your art with us on social media!

 

Cooped Up Crafts (for Adults and Teens) - June 23rd

If you are missing Getting Crafty, we have an alternative take and create program! Kits will be available to take and create at home. Registration is required, please call 414-302-8500, or register online at westallislibrary.org/events. Registration will open June 9th. Once we have confirmed registration library staff will contact you to schedule a pick-up for your craft kit. Those who do not register can still participate, details will be on our Facebook page.

Random Fandom Trivia (Teens) - June 18th

We'll take trivia from our past Random Fandom events and mix it all together! Follow us on Facebook for more details. Are you the ultimate random fan?

 

Game Night (for ages 12-18) - June 19th at 7 PM

Join some library friends in a virtual game night. We will play a game similiar to "Apples to "Apples". See our Facebook page for more information. 

 

Nailed It (Teens) - June 25th

We will post on Facebook a cooking or craft challenge and we challenge YOU to do it better!

Each Monday morning on our Facebook page we will post a bingo card or scavenger hunt. We will also have copies available at the library.

                  

Take and Makes - Crafts and Science
Tuesdays

Stop at the library to pick-up the supplies (while supplies last) to make a craft at home or to do a science experiment at home!

We are very happy to announce a new resource, Creativebug! Creativebug provides over 1,000 online video based art and craft courses led by experts. Classes cover a number of areas, including sewing, painting, paper crafts, drawing and so much more! Creativebug is free to use - you only need your West Allis Library card!
