 Back to School Reading Program

This special reading program is for all kids and teens in grades K through 12!

We're still reading this fall! From September 8 through October 30, log the books you read, write short reviews, and enter to win prizes! Reading 2 books and writing 2 book reviews earns you a FREE BOOK!  Coloring Club at Home 

Thursday, October 15

We'll provide the coloring pages, you provide the creativity! Coloring packets are available at the adult reference desk the third Thursday of each month. Take a packet home to color and post your completed works of art on social media before the next coloring club for a chance to WIN A PRIZE! 
 

Virtual Books & Coffee 

Saturday, October 17 at 10:00 AM

Join us on Zoom for a discussion of the book Our House by Louise Candlish. Copies of the book are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk. Registration is required and begins on Wednesday, September 16. Register by calling 414-302-8500 or online HERE. Those who register will be emailed a link to the Zoom event on October 16.

 

 Haunted House - Virtual Escape Room 

Monday, October 19 - Friday, October 23

Escape the haunted house and enter a raffle to win your very own copy of Haunted Wisconsin by Michael Norman. Feel free to complete the room by yourself or with a group. The link to the escape room will be provided on our website and all West Allis Library social media.

 

Live Morning Meditation (Adults & Teens) 

Friday, October 23 from 9:30 - 10:00 AM

Join us live on Instagram and Facebook for some simple morning stretches and meditation to get ready for the day.

 

 Cooped Up Crafts (Adults & Teens)

Friday, October 23 at 3 PM

Take and Make craft kits for teens and adults! This month we are crafting a pumpkin or spiderweb orb! Registration is required and begins October 6. Register by calling 414-302-8500 or online HERE. Once registered, you can pick up your Take and Make kit between October 13 - 23 by visiting the library or scheduling a curbside pick-up. Those who are registered will be provided with a Zoom meeting link to join and craft with library staff and others! Those of you who do not register can still participate with your own supplies! A how-to video will be posted online the day of the event.

Wednesday, October 28 at 10 AM

Join Katie on Facebook Live where she will share what she is reading and what she wants to read. This month she will share some fall books, including a few scary titles. If have what-to-read next questions ask Katie! Just send her an email at KHubbard@westalliswi.gov or join us live!

 

 Grab and Go Leisure Learners Bundles 

For those who miss our Monday morning program, Leisure Learners or for those looking for enriching and educational items, check out our (new!) Leisure Learners Bundles. 

We have prepared many themed bundles that deal with travel, history, gardening, and many more subjects! These bundles are boxed together for a grab and go experience. For a complete list of topics either stop by or call our Information Desk at 414-302-8500. These bundles may also be checked out via our curbside service.

Teen Online Scavenger Hunt 

Tuesday, September 15 - Friday, October 30

Use the library's databases to answer some questions and enter to win a reward! This program is for students in grades 6 - 12. More information will be posted on the Teen Blog and Teen Instagram.

 

 Monthly Teen Mixer

Thursday, October 15 from 4:30 - 5:30 PM

At this month's mixer we will be taste testing chips! Register to get a tasting kit, save your kit until the Zoom meet-up at which time you can discuss and guess the chips! Anyone interested in participating must register by calling 414-302-8500 or online HERE. Once registered, you will be sent the link to the "room" on the day of the event.

 

 Tie-Dye Friday

Friday, October 16 from 3:30 - 4:30 PM

Tie-dye a mask with the library on Zoom! We'll have kits with one white cotton mask, one bottle of dye, and rubber bands for you to pick up. Then, we'll get together on Zoom to tie-dye together. Registration begins October 2 and tie-dye kits will be available to pick up at the library starting on October 12. Register by calling 414-302-8500 or online HEREThis event is for students in grades 6 - 12. Link for the Zoom event will be emailed out a few times prior to the event.

Check Out Our Storywalk!

Stop by the library and check out the new StoryWalk on the parking lot side of the building! What is a StoryWalk? StoryWalk is a children's book posted on signs, page by page, so kids and adults can enjoy a story outside while on a walk. As you stroll down the sidewalk, you're directed to the next page in the story. This month's story is Pumpkin Trouble by Jan Thomas

Virtual Halloween Haunt + Take & Make 
Saturday, October 24

Join us for a not-so-spooky Virtual Halloween party for kids of all ages. We'll have a Halloween storytime available on our Youtube page with Halloween stories and activities! Then, packets can be picked-up at the library starting on October 24, while supplies last. Packets include a variety of crafts. Registration is not required. 1 craft packet per child.

  • At this time, masks are required for patrons and library staff. 
  • A limited number of public computers are available for use. Computer time is limited to 1 hour and only 1 login per day.
  • Study rooms are not accessible at this time.
  • Limited seating is available.
  • Toys and coloring supplies have been removed from the Children's Department.
  • Curbside service continues to be available.
