Dungeons and Dragons 101

Have you ever wanted to be an elf? Or go on a quest to defeat a dragon? Teens, 12-18, can join us August 17 and 31 to learn how to play Dungeons and Dragons.

On August 17 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Computer Lab, teens will create their characters. Teens must have a Gmail or Twitch account in order to create a character.

On August 31 from 12 to 5 p.m. in the Main Auditorium, teens will participate in a D&D campaign with their created characters. Participants cannot attend the August 31 campaign day if they do not come to the character building day.

Please be prepared to attend both sessions in their entirety.

Food will be provided on August 31, and all participants will receive a free set of dice to play with and take home. Space is limited to twelve participants and registration is required. To sign up, stop by the Information Desk at the Main Library or call 330-821-2665, ext. 211.

Teen Writing Club to Meet

The Teen Writing Club meets on every other Wednesday of the month (go to for specific dates). For ages 12-18, the purpose of this group is to meet with fellow teen writers to work on writing exercises and hone skills.

Any teen can join. Share work with the group if desired. The next meetings will be on Wednesdays, August 7, in the Computer Classroom, and August 21, in the Auditorium, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Tabletop Strategy Game Night

Do you like to play games of strategy such as Ticket to Ride or Magic the Gathering? Or want to try something new?

If so, join us in the library’s auditorium on Tuesday, August 20, at 6 p.m., to share your interest with other like-minded individuals of all ages. Each month there will be a different featured game a staff member will teach you to play.

Teen Movie Premiere

ShazamAll teens, ages 13-18, are invited to see “Shazam!,” a free movie on RPL’s big screen in the auditorium on Wednesday, August 14, at 5:30 p.m.

An abandoned street smart teenager befriends a wizard who endows him with an unusual power – by saying the wizard’s name he instantly turns into an adult superhero.

The movie is rated PG-13. No registration is needed. For more information, call 330-821-2665, ext. 214.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tournament

For intense one-on-one, head-to-head competition, join us on Thursday, August 29, from 3:00-5:00 p.m.,  in Rodman’s Main Auditorium for an exciting afternoon with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate that will be played on the Nintendo Switch™.

The tournament will start promptly at 3:15 p.m. It will consist of double elimination, best two of three, three lives per match, pick your characters and random map. Each person gets to pick one map not to play. If either map gets chosen at random, simply hit the random button one more time. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finalists.

Upon completion of the tournament, participants may play other video and board games. Snacks and beverages will be available. The event is free and open to all teens, ages 12-18. No registration is needed. For more information, call 330-821-2665, ext. 214.

Library Closings in August

Rodman Public Library will be CLOSED Saturday, August 10 for the Carnation Festival Grand Parade.

Rodman Main and Branch Libraries will be closed Friday, August 30, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. for a Staff In-Service Meeting. Both libraries will resume normal library hours beginning at 1:00 p.m. For more information, call 330-821-2665.

Ongoing Teen Programs at Rodman Public Library

Join us for one of our ongoing programs at Rodman Public Library. For specific dates and times, please check our monthly calendar of events.

Anime Club - Meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Teens will have the chance to pick their favorite episodes to be shown on RPL's big screen.

Teen Movie Night - Meets monthly on the 1st or 2nd Tuesday, 5:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. New movie every month.

Teen Video Gaming Days, ages 13-18 - Meets every other Thursday from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., in the Main Auditorium. Play games on the Xbox One and 360, PS3 &4, and Nintendo Wii & WiiU. Rated “E” for Everyone; “T” for Teens. The program is in partnership with Synergy Alliance.
