Teen Summer Reading Program Underway

Summer Reading ProgramThe Summer Reading Program for teens is underway at Rodman Library. There will be programs, prizes, hands-on creative opportunities, and special events. Teens may sign up by going online at https://rodmanlibrary.beanstack.org/ or by downloading the Beanstack app.

Teens, ages 12-18, who complete three hours per week of reading will get one entry into the Summer Reading Teen Grand Prize Drawing that will consist of three baskets, each containing assorted prizes. Only one basket may be claimed by a participant. There will also be weekly online challenge questions for teens. For each correctly answered challenge question, participants will get an additional entry into the Grand Prize Drawing. Twenty hours of completed reading will earn a prize of one book of the teen’s choice from selected books offered and a themed prize.

Movie Premiere for Teens

All teens, ages 13-18, are invited to see “Bumblebee,” a free movie on RPL’s big screen in the auditorium on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at 5:30 p.m. When a teenage girl stumbles upon an old, broken yellow car in a California junkyard she makes an amazing discovery ― it is no ordinary yellow VW bug. The movie is rated PG-13. No registration is needed. For more information, call 330-821-2665, ext. 214.

Escape key

Teen Escape Room

Teens, 12-18, are challenged to Escape from Space Station 42 before time runs out. Join us in Rodman Main Auditorium on Wednesday, June 19, at 3 p.m., and gather your team of three or four players.

Working in groups, teens will be given 25 minutes to solve the puzzles and escape. Teams may be planned in advance, but it is not required. Participants may be assigned to a group upon arrival. Attendees arriving between 3 and 5 p.m., will be making a variety of space themed crafts as they wait for their chance in the escape room. A background movie with a space theme will also be playing.

The program will continue for one additional hour after the initial portion. Groups wanting to take advantage of this time period must check in no later than 5:30 p.m. Snacks and beverages will be available. This free program is supported by the Friends of Rodman Library. Writing

Teen Writing Club

The Teen Writing Club meets on every other Wednesday of the month (go to www.rodmanlibrary.com for specific dates). For ages 12-18, the purpose of this group is to meet with fellow teen writers to work on writing exercises and hone skills. Any teen can join. Share work with the group if desired.

The next meetings will be on Wednesdays, June 12 (Computer Classroom) and 26 (Conference Room), from 4 to 5:30 p.m. No registration is needed. For more information, call the Main Library at 330-821-2665, ext. 213.

Ongoing Teen Programs at Rodman Public Library

Join us for one of our ongoing programs at Rodman Public Library. For specific dates and times, please check our monthly calendar of events.

Anime Club - Meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Teens will have the chance to pick their favorite episodes to be shown on RPL's big screen.

Teen Movie Night - Meets monthly on the 1st or 2nd Tuesday, 5:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. New movie every month.

Teen Video Gaming Days, ages 13-18 - Meets every other Thursday from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., in the Main Auditorium. Play games on the Xbox One and 360, PS3 &4, and Nintendo Wii & WiiU. Rated “E” for Everyone; “T” for Teens. The program is in partnership with Synergy Alliance.
