Summer Reading Program

The Summer Reading Program will include programs, prizes, hands-on creative opportunities, and special events. Participants of the children’s Summer Reading Program may sign up at the front desk of the Main Children’s Department, the Branch Library, or Bookmobile.

BOOK F.E.A.S.T. (Fun, Eats, And Stories, Too)

Join us at Rodman Public Library every Thursday, June 6 through July 18, from noon to 1:00 p.m. for BOOK F.E.A.S.T. This program, for children and their families, will feature special guests and entertainment. Special guests will include Jungle Terry on June 6, and Lindsay Bonilla on June 27.

Free hot lunches will be served at 11:45 a.m. for those who are 18 years and under as part of the Summer Food Service Program through the Alliance City Schools. Participants are also welcome to bring their own packed lunch/beverage. This program is supported by the Friends of Rodman Library. No registration is required. Mabel Hartzell Tour for Kids

Hartzell Home tour for kidsChildren, ages 6-12, are invited to experience an afternoon at the Mabel Hartzell Historical Home, 840 N. Park Avenue, in Alliance. On Saturday, June 8, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m., children accompanied by an adult, will tour the home, create very cool artwork by making a cyanotype and partake in an ice cream social. This program will begin and end at the Mabel Hartzell Home, so advanced registration is required. It is limited to 30 participants. "Chapter Chat" Children's Book Club

We the Children by Andrew ClementsChapter Chat Book Club is for all children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old. The next meeting is Wednesday, June 12, at 4:15 p.m. It includes a book discussion, games and activities, and meets on the second Wednesday of each month.

June’s book is We the Children, by Andrew Clements. Registration is required for a four-week checkout of a selected title one month in advance. To register, or for more information, call the Children’s Department at 330-821-2665, ext. 223.

Tales for Tails

Boy reading book to dogFor the summer months, Rodman Public Library will offer Tales for Tails every second and fourth Friday from 1 to 3 p.m., beginning on June 14 through July 26. There will be no program in August. Tales for Tails offers children the chance to try their reading skills on local therapy dogs. These specially trained dogs will “listen” to stories in the Children’s Program Room at the Main Library. Fifteen minute time slots are available. Patrons may sign up in advance for a preferred time slot. Please check our online calendar for dates at www.rodmanlibrary.com. Storytime at the Branch Summer Hours

Reading a story to childrenDuring the summer months of June through August, beginning on June 3, Rodman Library Branch will offer Storytime on Monday mornings at 10:30 a.m., and Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. The Branch Library is located at 1808 West State St., in the Marketplace Plaza. Eagle Storytime with Hot Pots

Children, ages 3-12, are invited to Rodman Branch Library for an Eagle Storytime on Wednesday, June 19, at 6:30 p.m., or Saturday, June 22, at 11:00 a.m. A story will be read first at the library, then children and their guardian will proceed to Hot Pots to paint a ceramic eagle figurine. Snacks will be offered. The cost is $10.00, payable to Hot Pots before the event. Registration is required and can be made at https://hotpotspottery.com/ or by phone at 330-823-3333.

Minecraft for Kids

Minecraft on the iPad will be offered for children, ages 8-11, on Saturday, June 29, at 2 p.m., in Rodman Main Auditorium. Participants will be given different tasks to complete at the beginning of the program, which will encourage teamwork and organization. The Minecraft Realms for iPads will be used for this program. iPads will be available for use. Up to ten children will have access to the iPads at a time. No sign up is required. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Tournament for Kids

Join us on Monday, June 17, at 5:30 p.m., in Rodman’s Main Auditorium for an exciting tournament using Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that will be played on the Nintendo Switch™.

Children will compete in groups, earning points. Top winning groups will then face off. Snacks will be offered. The event is free and open to children, ages 7-12 years old. Registration is needed. To register or for more information, call 330-821-2665, ext. 223.

Family Movie Night

Families are invited to see an animated movie, “Wonder Park,” on Wednesday, June 19, at 6:00 p.m., in Rodman Main Auditorium.

A very creative young girl discovers a fantastic, yet untidy, amusement park filled with talking animals. She realizes it comes from her imagination and sets out to save this magical place and make it a reality. No registration is needed. Rated PG. Ongoing Programs at Rodman Public Library

Join us for one of our ongoing programs at Rodman Public Library. For specific dates and times, please check our monthly calendar of events.

 

Wee Read Main Library, ages birth through two years - Meets at the Main Library every Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. and every Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. Wee Read introduces children to books, fingerplays and music incorporating the six early learning skills.

Storytime Main Library, ages 3-5 - Meets at the Main Library every Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m. It encourages life-long readers through stories and activities.

Storytime Branch Library, ages 3-5 - Meets at the Branch Library every Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. It encourages life-long readers through stories and activities.

Chapter Chat now combines the individual Boys and Girls Clubs into one club for all children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old. It includes a book discussion, games and activities, and meets monthly on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 4:15 p.m. in the Children’s Program Room. Play Group allows children to make friends, play, and share stories on every third or fourth Saturday in the Children’s Program Room from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. This play group is designed for children to learn, socialize, and explore through play. It is aimed for birth to kindergarten ages with an adult caregiver, but all are welcome. No registration is needed.

Tales for Tails - From January through May, meets the 2nd or 3rd Saturday of the month from 1:00-3:00 p.m., in the Main Children's Program Room. Children try their reading skills on local therapy dogs that will "listen" to stories. Dogs in attendance are members of Therapy Dogs International and the "Paws and Reflect" Pet Therapy group of Alliance Community Hospital. Sign up in advance. Call 330-821-2665, ext. 223.

Tween Council is open to enthusiastic 4th to 6th graders who want to make a difference in the library. Tweens will meet monthly on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 4:15 p.m. to share ideas for upcoming programs, current trends, and what they and their peers are reading. Tween Council will meet in the Children’s Program Room and no registration is needed.
