2021 Summer Reading Program, "Tails and Tales"

“Tails and Tales” is the theme of Rodman Public Library’s 2021 Adult, Teens, and Children’s Summer Reading Program that begins on Tuesday, June 1 and runs through Saturday, July 31.

The adult program is open to ages 18 and older. Adults may sign up for Summer Reading either with a paper form from the Main Library, Branch Library or Bookmobile, or online at or by downloading the Beanstack app. For those participating using the paper form, any check out transaction of library materials qualifies for one ticket to be entered into a weekly drawing for a gift bag filled with a variety of goodies, including an Amazon gift card. Patrons may have multiple checkouts per day. For those participating online, each book read qualifies for one ticket to be entered into a weekly drawing for a digital Amazon gift card. Additional entries will be given for each additional book read in each week. All who participate in the program will be entered into the Grand Prize drawings.

Rodman Bookmobile to Hit the Road

The Rodman Public Library Bookmobile will be on the road again on June 1.

“We’re excited to get back out again,” said Bookmobile Manager Jamie Warnock. “We look forward to seeing all the people again.”

The Bookmobile staff will include James Sedoris and Ashley Mock throughout the summer as it makes regular stops on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays through June, July and August.

In addition to the Pegasus Farm Country Store, weekly stops will include First Christian Church, 1141 W. Beech St.; Maple Beach Park, 1295 Reed St.; the park on Wilma Avenue at Barcus Acres, and Nantucket Circle.

Rodman Public Library's bookmobile serves residents and schools in the Alliance and Marlington school districts. In addition to books, the Bookmobile, which is disability accessible, carries magazines, books on CD and your favorite DVDs for all ages, with a two-week check out for all materials.

How to Draw Realistic Dog Portraits

Ever wanted to capture the likeness of your canine companion with pencil and paper?

If so, then Rodman Public Library has the perfect opportunity when it hosts “How to Draw Realistic Dog Portraits,” a summer art experience via Zoom on Monday, July 12 at 7 p.m.

Participants ages 9 and older will be guided by Christine Thornton, owner and founder of Hello Art Studio, as they learn to produce a likeness of man’s best friend complete with accurate proportions and shading. Artists can draw a dog using a provided photo or by using their own photo for reference.

Students can provide their own materials or they can pick up a free kit at Rodman Public Library that will include all suggested supplies, including pencil, eraser, drawing paper, kneaded eraser, blending stump and darker drawing pencil.

Class size is limited to 20 participants and registration is required at or by calling 330-821-2665, ext. 107.

Thornton is a former public school art teacher. She taught lessons out of her home as a stay-at-home mom for 14 years before opening Hello Art Studio in 2019.
